Fishing Reports

Date: 30-01-2009

Happy New Year and welcome to the first fishing report of the year with the sunny fine weather we have been experiencing we have had lots of reports of fish activity pouring in.

First up The snook are still going strong with good catches coming from Brighton to Port Noarlunga on all the normal grounds, Stanvac Barges have been particularly good. Blue crabs are just starting to come on as I write this column with the best catches between Brighton and glenelg on both jetties and out of the boats, remember you are only allowed to use fish a bait in the nets, and you may find them a little light on for meat but that will get better over the next month or so.

Gar fish have been a little hard to find of late so best place to try in Horse Shoe Reef of Christies. Be careful of the swell, and anchor a little of the reef so as not to find your self landing on it. Kingston Park would be worth a look in February as the weather heats up for all you waders.

Yellow fin Whiting are still going strong along the beaches in the shallows from Moana to Brighton, these tasty fish are really worth chasing as the are close to hand and easy to catch.

Bream can be found in the jetty shallows at Port Noarlunga, Torrens River out let and also in the Onkaparinga River which is also hold some legal School Mulloway.

Further a field Salmon trout can be found of the beach at Waipinga, Selleks and out of the boat at the caissons at Glenelg, size is varying from 1/2kg to 2kg.

The bright full moon has put the squid of but as it gets darker at night things should pick up. Last of all for those who want an easy fish with the kids try the Torrens River near the zoo for carp safe comfortable fishing for the whole family.

Tight line
