Fishing Reports

Hi and welcome to or second Fishing report for 2009 it only seems like last week since the last one having been so busy with the store, fishing and family. So here goes fist up is Gar fish which have improved greatly since our last report best spots are Hallet Cove, Marino, Brighton and Glenelg areas using long life Gents for boaties and from Port Noarlunga, Brighton and Gelenelg Jetties for land lovers. You should also pick up a good bag of Tommies in the same areas using the same baits.

 

King George Whiting can be found at Second Valley, Wirrina and Marino best baits are Cuttle Fish and Pippies. Yellow fin Whiting are still along most southern beaches from Brighton to Wirrina. We are finding that peeled prawns and frozen beach worms are working best. If you are fishing down at Wirrina you may still come across some Snapper using Sauries and Squid baits.

 

Speaking of squid there is still good numbers around with the better catches coming from Marino to Seaford for boaties and Port Noarlunga Jetty for those of use who are land based. Try using Diawa’s New Emeralds Squid Jigs in the bright red colour for best results.

 

Bream and Mulloway can be found at the Patawalunga, West lakes, Port River and the Onkapringa River best bait for bream is Prawns, White Bait and Soft Plastics while the Mulloway are responding to live baits and hard bodied minnow style lures. While on the lure subject we are getting good catches of Salmon from Waipinga on 40 – 60gram metal lure to the right of the creek.

 

Blue crabs are still running from Tennyson to west beach fro the boaties and from Brighton Jetty for the land based anglers. Remember you can fish at Port Noarlunga Jetty but are not allowed to use crab nets as it is a marine reserve.

 

For those of you who like a challenge King Fish to 25kg are being caught at Rapid head best catches are coming from live Gar or live Squid. If you have trouble with keeping the bait live try rigging a skipping gar or larger style minnow lures.
